Run with the Punches

New blog name? Hmmm.
Some randomness for your Friday, while I try to get my life blog together.

*Is it normal to signup for personal training, a 4-miler, and a half-marathon in 1 fell swoop? Cause I did that. And now I'm considering banning myself from getting online after 9pm.

*Is it normal to feel like DEATH after 1 session with the personal trainer? 22 does not equal invincible. Life is a lie not worth living!
Or I could just get my sorry butt into shape.

*Is it normal to wake up on Thursday and be convinced it's Friday because you were off Tuesday and Wednesday? The answer is yes, if you work retail. *hand raised*

*Is it normal to be hungry at 11:30pm and finally give in and eat something totally weird? Like a slice of bread with honey and sunflower seeds.

*Is it normal to suddenly have the blogging urge after not blogging for 4 months, simple because you read someone else's blog who happens to be in the same city as you? And think that blogging again will make you as cool as they are? Yeah.

Happy weekend to those of you who work normal boring M-F jobs!

To Do in 2012

*Give this little blog a make-over! New stage in life calls for new name, new style, new attitude. Time to lose the college-throw-back ("Major"? Degree=earned!)
*Move to a new city. Ok, so this is cheating since I already know this will happen sometime next month. But hey, that makes it easy to achieve!
*Run a 10K in under an hour. This year, running becomes a habit.
*Visit Disneyworld! Nope, never been. My childhood was deprived.
*Take a trip to see friends in far-away places. Options: Texas, Hawaii, or California
*Learn to relax. I am a very up-tight person.. I'm the first person to ask "is that safe?", I enter new situations hesitantly, and I am always the DD. It is possible to have fun and not get killed!
*Do something new at least once a month. The options are pretty broad, since I have not been a very adventurous person in the past! Skiing? Bike ride on the beach? 5K by moonlight? Skydiving? Ehh, that's pushing it.
*Take a dance class
*Try yoga. In addition to being non-adventurous, I am also deathly afraid of looking like a moron whilst doing something I have clearly never done before.
*Spend more on my friends and family. I realized my selfish tendencies over the holidays. I also realized how nice it felt to say "This one's on me"!
*Write at least once a week. HAHA but really. I shall try.

Gunna be a good year ya'll!
Love,
B.

Life and Times

First of all, let me say I have missed writing here and I am not intending to fall off the blogging map!

Second of all, let me say my job is cray-zay, my internet connection is non-existent, and my life has gone through a hundred changes in the past 6 months!

2011, it's been good. Truely the best year of my life so far. In fact, I got a little teary this afternoon thinking about all the incredible things I experienced, the places I went, the tasks I accomplished, and most importantly, the friends I made.

I graduated from college with a GPA higher than 3.0 (not much higher, but definitely higher).
...interviewed for and offered positions at 3 different companies
...accepted a job offer from one company, that also happened to be the biggest and best
...found out I would be moving to Savannah, GA with 1 month's notice
...enjoyed a final month of "summer vacation" in my hometown, between graduation and moving
...moved to a city I had never been to
...found an apartment on my own
...broke out of my shell enough to make a dozen new friends in a city where I knew 1 person
...adjusted to living alone, cooking alone, eating alone, and paying bills alone :)
...adjusted to a job in the retail "big leagues" with new responsibilities, challenges, and attitudes
...started running as regularly as possible and signed up for my first post-college race!
...completed said race, over the Savannah Bridge, with 4 fabulous friends who made up for a stinky time
...survived my first holiday season as a retail manager, recieving high praise from my boss
...survived, and even enjoyed, spending both major holidays away from my family
...took a leap of faith with a fragile relationship and learned to enjoy the moments that make me smile without thinking too far ahead

If 2012 is only half as good, it will still be an incredible year.

Happy, happy, happy New Year!!

Pre-Falling

How many of ya'll are craving fall a little bit early?? As of today, I am joining your club.

The South is a beautiful land full of ocean breezes, beach weekends, and sweet tea, but 95-100 degree temps combined with intense humidity are hard to love. Even for this summer girl!

Today Starbucks was playing classical music and I was instantly flooded with images of red-gold New England landscapes, fireplaces, blanketed couches covered with books, and fitted camel trench coats. What is it about Vivaldi and Bach?

As if that wasn't enough, Forever 21 put up their back-to-school displays featuring collegiate stripes, stacks of sweaters, and long plaid skirts.

I wore an almost-identical plaid skirt back in highschool. Seeing this one gave me a horrible flashback involving frumpy blouses and granny boots. But now I'm curious: how will you style it this fall to bring it into 2011?

Comment away!

Once Upon a Wet Wednesday

Oh look, I did it again! Shocker. I could give all the excuses in the world, but would you really believe me? Probably not, but the pure honest truth is that I. am. busy. No one told me how much work it is to take care of myself on a daily basis: cooking, cleaning, bill-paying, errand-running, shopping (for food, of course), .... and working! All the time.
I love my job, but in the spirit of full disclosure, I am a teensy bit tired. Now, this is partly my own fault since I cannot go to bed before 11pm. Chalk it up to 4 years of all-nighters. College schedule = one hard habit to bust! But working a closing shift and then turning around to work an opening shift can be draining. All my efforts to lay off the coffee have been totally trashed. Sigh.

On the bright side, Savannah is a wonderful place to be if you have a day off. Have I mentioned the beach is only 20 minutes away??

Mmmmmm sandy, sunny bliss pretty much makes everything worth it.
I am still promising to post pictures one day. You will be so surprised when I actually pull through! Thanks for sticking with me. Love you guys!

In The South, We Sloow

Hello blog world! I am ashamed to admit my complete slide into laziness when it comes to actually writing. As soon as my computer boots, I am surfing from blog to blog and putting off doing the "hard" work myself. In my defense, I do not have internet in my apartment yet. Starbucks and Barnes & Noble are my new besties.

I will post sometime in the near future when my camera starts working properly so I can post pictures! Who really visits a blog for the incredibly fascinating text anyways? Don't lie.

While you are waiting, go check out the Cookbook Experiment, the awesome South Carolina-based foodie blog run by: my mom. She has a couple contests going on and trust me, you don't want to miss her recipes. I would know!

Happy scrolling!
